Beware of New 2027 Health Insurance Plans!
I received my Change in health insurance services for my TN BCBST Insurance in the email telling me about changes to the Contract for 2027. There are too many changes to talk about. It took me over an hour to read the Contact and to check the Drug Formulary. There are many Changes in both including Outpatient Procedures, Testing, payments for hospitalizations, drugs that will be covered, and how much and many they will cover. It also listed many increases is so called copays for procedure coverages your responsibility for paying in full what the company doesn’t cover.
As I looked for my medication coverages , I became aware that almost all that I read in the contract and the formulary is not understandable to probably 80-90% of those on Medicare Advantage. Unless you worked actively in the medical system most won’t understand.
Although the insurance covers more than Medicare alone, it is clearly written for the insurance company and is not the “Advantage” to us but to make more money for the Insurance Company and not for seniors and disabled Americans. You will pay more and get less in 2027.
I tell you this because we are all paying more for gasoline, food, utilities, and the Iran war that only we are calling a war. The Insurance Companies are also trying to pay less and approve less care, passing their costs to you. Just a side note…That is probably true of people under 65 paying through employers or self pay. Please review the coverage under Obamacare if your income qualifies you, before deciding for the insurance Companies.
Seniors on Medicare Advantage need to be aware that the language that they use is legalese and should have someone with a medical background read what they receive and explain the differences between 2026 and 2027 coverage.
Insurance companies are not your friend.
Medicare Advantage Agents are not you friends.
They each get paid to give you just enough information needed to sign you.
Beware, don’t trust their friendly approach. They are salesmen. That is all they are.
