Sacred Homestead

By

A Poem

Through the door I enter.

Safety abounds within.

Each a sacred homestead

Where I hide within.

Once my hidden refuge

Broken, I depart without

A place of safer hiding

To search ever ever more.

How I long for my Sacred

Homestead as I had before.

Feeling unsafe in the world

Left nowhere to hide.

Searching darkest alleys

And corners with no lights.

Wondering if I’ll ever find

My longed-for refuge again.

Once broke, not easily mended

Once lost, not painlessly found.

Once without, no more within.

Once uncertain, then unsafe.

I must guard my heart

From further damage.

Unwise letting others close.

Distrust learned when broken.

Once your trust is damaged,

You learn distrust by choice.

Once your heart was broken,

You learn to hide it deep.

No one is allowed to enter.

My damaged sacred place.

My private, hidden sanctuary

Hidden forever, ever more
